Greenpeace is an international non-profit global campaigning organisation. Our independence and global reach enable us to stand for positive change through action in order to defend nature and promote peace. We investigate and expose global environmental problems, confront those in positions of power and present alternative solutions.


The Digital and Direct Marketing Manager will join an established team of 8 responsible for recruiting over 40,000 new regular giving financial supporters to Greenpeace every year. 

The Digital and Direct Marketing Manager is responsible for delivering our paid social media programme, working in conjunction with the organic social media team to deepen the impact of Greenpeace campaigns.

The paid social media team plays a vital role in ensuring mass engagement with Greenpeace campaigns from new audiences. In 2022, its achievements include generating nearly 1 million signs for Greenpeace petitions, developing strategies to boost the reach of organic content, testing new social media messaging, and testing paid advertising on new platforms like LinkedIn or TikTok. In doing so, the paid social team both furthers Greenpeace’s strategic priorities and provides the wider recruitment team with a high volume of leads for regular giving conversion.

An expert in paid digital advertising strategy, and with specialist knowledge of Facebook ads Manager, the successful candidate will know what drives social media engagement. This, along with their understanding of emerging digital trends, will provide the paid social team with the leadership it needs to develop strategies and content to motivate new supporters to join the environmental movement.

Greenpeace prides itself on collaborative work between its fundraising and campaigns departments. The Digital and Direct Marketing Manager will work closely with Greenpeace’s wider social media teams to develop opportunities and tactics that broaden the reach of organic social media content. They will also sit on at least one campaign team and help to shape future Greeenpeace campaigns so that they meet the needs of mass engagement.

The right candidate will be evidence-led and be able to quickly spot emerging trends which might impact on performance. Their data driven approach to audience insight and campaign management will ensure they capitalise on opportunities and effectively mitigate risk. In doing so, they will take the paid social media programme from strength to strength and Greenpeace to deliver on its core campaigns to protect the oceans and forests, tackle pollution and address the climate crisis.

Location: Islington, London. We are currently trialling a hybrid working model to enjoy the benefits of both office based and remote working. The current expectation is for staff to work from the office in Islington at least 40% of their time. Reasonable adjustments to the trial policy as well as specific office based needs will be considered for those with long term health conditions and disabilities.

You'll have:

  • Demonstrable understanding of digital marketing campaigns with specialist knowledge of Facebook Ads Manager and other paid social media channels. This could have been built working for a not-for-profit organisation or in a commercial setting.
  • Ability to lead a high performing team. Set individual objectives, monitor performance, ensure targets are met and coach team members to achieve their best.
  • Proven experience developing complex budgets, reforecasts and end-of year projections. Providing detailed progress reports to monitor income/expenditure performance and provide insight which helps inform future strategy.
  • Expert data-led decision making skills with a proven ability to set, monitor and adjust key performance indicators to ensure campaign success. This includes proactively working with colleagues from other teams to identify performance-related trends which might shape future approaches and then proactively leading on the required response.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to apply diplomacy when developing effective, collaborative and co-beneficial relationships to deliver on own responsibilities, cross-departmental priorities and shared organisational goals.
