Excellent opportunity for a Communications Manager to join a not-for-profit specialising in science research

External Communications Manager
Not-for-profit specialising in sustainability research
South Oxfordshire
Hybrid working- in the office minimum 2 days per week
£43,000-48,000 PA dependant on experience

I am working with a fantastic not-for-profit based in South Oxfordshire where they are looking for an External Communications Manager to join their team. You will be working closely with the Head of Communications to drive external communications across governments, businesses, and the wider public and science community. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a passion for external communications, drive a communications function, as well as scientific research to benefit the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities:


* Manage a team of 3 who are responsible for delivering media relations, social media, website content, public engagement, and major events
* Plan and prepare communications plans and report on campaign success
* Deputy responsibilities and acting Head of Communications whilst the Head of Communications is out of office

* Generate media partnerships, and build and maintain relationships with editors and journalists across broadcast, print and online media
* Manage the press office function, including reactive media relations and out of hours press office
* Manage the crisis communications process and deliver effective crisis communications when required
* Support the implementation of the organisation's public engagement principles, embedding excellent public engagement with research in science
* Manage the planning, delivery and evaluation of key corporate and industry events, and support attendance at key academic conferences

Personal Profile:


* Extensive public relations experience, dealing with government, policy, industry and research audiences
* Great relationships with relevant editors and journalists and a track record of building media partnerships with broadcast, print and online media
* Demonstrable experience of engaging diverse audiences with scientific issues, including the general public
* Experience of using social media channels effectively to achieve clear communications objectives
* Previous Line Management experience
* Experience in a research organisation is preferred, but not essential
