Press Officer - 6 MONTH FTC opportunity with remote and flexible working options

Hays Marketing is proud to be working in partnership with CITB who are looking to appoint a Press Officer for a 6 month FTC (which could be extended) to start immediately. The role will be working remotely with some occasional travel to Wales when COVID restrictions are lifted. CITB is a public body and a registered charity and sponsored by the Department for Education.


CITB aims to lead the construction sector by example to ensure fairness, inclusion and respect for all. They seek to build a workforce that reflects Britain's diverse population and people from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply for vacancies. Their main objective is to create a culture that helps all of their customers strive towards a workforce that is reflective of today's society.

You will proactively manage CITB's profile and reputation in trade and mainstream media, and on social media, achieving high visibility and impact in preferred outlets. As the primary PR contact within the relevant nation, representing the Press Team in Wales, internally and externally. You will deliver the Media Relations Strategy, drawing on specialist PR/journalistic experience, technical and analytical skill to take the lead on complex or controversial press issues, communicating CITB's work and the benefits it creates for industry.

You will also provide expert advice on media handling and PR to the Exec, Board, Leadership Team, and colleagues across the business, briefing and accompanying spokespeople on interviews and broadcast opportunities. This includes liaising with journalists, fielding queries, and working with colleagues across CITB to provide media comment and statements, often to tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have led on proactive campaigns, securing, national and regional coverage and managed reactive media enquiries and media relations.

Essential skills required are:


* Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously with little supervision.
* A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification.
* Demonstrable track record in journalism, PR or equivalent profession.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills.
* Problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities.
* Political awareness, particularly in relevant nation.
* Ability to influence and negotiate effectively and with diplomacy across a range of stakeholders, up to the most senior level.

Desirable skills required:


* Knowledge of the construction industry and built environment.
* Knowledge of issues related to skills, training and employment.
* Experience in filming and editing videos and audio for social media.

Role Profile:

* Proven track record in successful crisis management and reputational issues, providing measured media advice.
* Ability to create high-quality content across a range of formats, including blogs and social media content and to provide guidance and advice to colleagues to do the same.
* Awareness of the changing news agenda and political landscape in Scotland and the UK and 'nose for news'. Strong editing and proof-reading skills.
* IT and web based skills.


Qualifications required:


* Journalism or PR/comms qualification
* Essential past experience/skills
* Worked agency / inhouse press office environment, or in journalism.
