This role will be part of a multidisciplinary team developing successful digital services and products within the NHS.UK programme. The role will be primarily within the Find a health service change team.

The designer will:

* Combine strong practical design skills with the judgement to create the most appropriate design deliverables at the right time.
* As the design expert in a multidisciplinary team, you will make sure its services or products meet your user's needs and fit the organisational context.
* Be aware of lean and agile methods of practice.
* Mentor other designers and deal with a wide range of people with an interest in your product or service.
* Develop design to meet proven user needs and get organisational results
* Create design ideas for new services and make big improvements to existing ones
* Interpret evidence-based research and include it in their work
* Support the values and standards of inclusive and accessible design
* Communicate ideas in a way that other people understand
* Make smart choices and recognise when to ask for further guidance and support
* Review the work of others constructively

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

* Qualification required: recognised design qualification.
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Knowledge required:
* knowledge of interaction design, human-computer development processes, human-computer design principles, human limitations, SDLC processes and user interface (UI) technologies
* Demonstrable knowledge and passion for user centred design practices for both public facing and internal services and applications.
* Skills required:
* Experienced in designing user interfaces.
* Able to demonstrate skills in interaction design and fulfilling user needs
* Demonstrate your process in designing and building new digital services

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the below:

* Applying design skills: can demonstrate end-to-end 'design ownership' in the different phases of a relevant production process. Use appropriate tools and methodologies to develop solutions that meet the product team's objectives. Capable of designing systems for use across multiple services and identify the simplest approach out of a variety of alternatives.
* Communication: Liaise with stakeholders, suppliers and programme teams, communicating technical concepts and complex issue clearly, accurately and adapting communication style to suit the recipient. Product written and graphic information of a high quality. Communicate clearly with non-technical audiences and assert the importance of user needs and a usable approach at the core of designing human-centred services.
* Concise documentation: collate and communicate complex information within the scope of the role's responsibilities e.g. high-quality reports and information about the project or programme to a range of internal and external stakeholders in a variety of different formats, with challenging deadlines
* Teamwork: work cooperatively and productively with colleagues at all levels to achieve results. Experience in ensuring that joint activities have clearly defined responsibilities and that areas of contention are discussed in an open and constructive manner.
* Stakeholder management: assist in the identification of key internal and external stakeholders and analysis of their interests, requirements, levels of interest and impact. Proactively engage with and manage a broad range of stakeholders, using appropriate communication techniques to understand their needs. Be able to explain and justify a point view objectively to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
