We’re looking for a highly committed and talented marketer with proven leadership and management skills to join us as Head of Audience Development and help build support for our strategic goal of ending the housing emergency.
A home is a fundamental human need, as vital as education or healthcare. But in Britain today, access to a safe home is denied to millions of people whose lives are blighted by homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious people who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is a chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
Our marketing team is part of the Communications, Policy and Campaigns directorate that leads Shelter’s public campaigning, media, lobbying, research, policy development, brand and strategic communications. The 13-strong team includes a brand management team, a campaign strategy and delivery team, and search, digital and social media specialists. Working closely with the creative, digital and insight teams, the marketing team supports all areas of the business and works across all aspects of marketing. Together, we aim to achieve change for the millions struggling with bad housing or homelessness.
About the Role
As Head of Audience Development, you’ll be responsible for leading the team that develops and delivers outstanding integrated marketing campaigns which raise the profile of our brand, extend our reach and help us grow our supporter base. With a focus on audience development, you will build strategic partnerships to reach new audiences, commission engaging content to inspire support and deliver effective marketing to meet our targets. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you will help to shape and develop marketing expertise at Shelter and support the team to drive their success.
Data driven and analytical in your approach to marketing, you're proactive, creative, customer focused and commercially aware. You will have a strong track record of delivering successful marketing and communications campaigns and will thrive off using insight to find creative ways to engage and develop new audiences. We’re looking for someone who is great at building strong relationships internally and externally, and brings innovation in marketing to the mix, with beneficial results.
You’ll need to be comfortable in a leadership and management role, and well-versed in all marketing disciplines, with a strong digital focus and experience in CRM and marketing automation. A highly positive, collaborative approach, and willingness to share knowledge and lead by example to develop the skills of the team and the wider organisation, are also a must. You will have a proven ability to liaise, influence and challenge effectively at senior management, peer and team level. Above all, you want to help us dramatically increase the general public’s understanding of, and empathy with, people struggling with homelessness and bad housing and grow support for our cause.
