A university in London is currently looking for a Senior Communications Officer to join their PR team.

Description

Senior Communications Officer

Permanent

The candidate will support the Head of Communications and Events as part of the PR team and overall contribute to the vision and growth of the university through the duties outlined below.

Using a full range of communications channels you will with academics to promote their research and expertise across a wide range of media. You will need to build strong relationships with academics and other staff across the school to ensure that you are the go-to person for new research outputs, expert comment on the day's news and other key school events. You will use your first class media relationship skills to achieve national and international coverage of the worlds leading research and teaching that goes on across the school.

* Develop and advise PR strategies appropriate across varied departments
* Work with key stakeholders and research influencers to promote the university across multiple media outlets
* Ensure strategy and progress is reviewed regularly to improve future performance and maintain the vision of the university
* Ensure staff are aware of any potential issues so the PR team can maintain effective function current issues in the education sector which may affect the university
* Maintain regular communication with internal and external staff members to stay updated on latest developments
* Develop working relationships and work in collaboration with relevant key stakeholders such as journalists to maintain strong ties, follow up requests and ensure deadlines are met
* Ensure all media and news stories are uploaded on time and are up to date as well as maintain external media monitoring on a daily basis to ensure any damaging news/issues which may affect the university are handled with in a sensitive and appropriate manner
* Actively produce digital, social media and other promotional content for the university to raise the profile of the university, its academics and other professional influence
* Identify other opportunities for profile raising such as award entries, conferences, spokesperson roles or discussions.


Profile

There are two roles available. Experience of working in finance or business journalism or in a PR & communications role is desirable for one of the positions. Previous PR & communications experience is desirable for the other.
