Your new role

You'll be leading and managing a team of 15 individuals who will help deliver the internal and external communications for the Avon and Somerset Police. You will lead, manage and develop efficient and effective departmental operations to deliver services which meet the strategy and objectives - working together to make Avon and Somerset Constabulary an outstanding police force. You'll be providing corporate communications, tactical media handling and public affairs functions. Your responsibilities are focused on promoting public confidence and satisfaction by influencing the profile of the force locally, regionally and nationally. In this role you'll be supporting and informing the development of corporate plans and strategies and ensure the effective and efficient provision of general and specific professional and technical information, advice and guidance.

What you'll need to succeed

The key requirement for this role is sound experience at a senior level in corporate communications across a range of varied disciplines in a complex, fast moving environment. This will include effective news judgement, a digital understanding and extensive experience in a news-related role. You will have political and news awareness demonstrated through sound judgement and the ability to drive communications approaches to meet organisational and operational priorities and objective. You will need the ability to provide an expert crisis communications function during major incidents. You will also have the required gravitas and creditability to influence and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders and partners. This needs to be coupled strong leadership skills which delivers results by empowering the team to be proactive and innovative. You will ideally possess a professional PR, Marketing and/or media qualification. Chartered F/MCIPR or F/MCIM is desirable for this post. You will have gained the experience of effective management of budgets. Ideally you will hold a full current driving licence.
