Our External Relations team is seeking an Interim Communications Manager to play a critical role in advising and supporting client-facing teams with the promotion of their work, helping them achieve even greater influence and impact with a broad range of external stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of External Communications and Marketing, as the post holder you will be required to use your broad communications experience to determine the most appropriate communications approach for each of our published reports (averaging three per week when Parliament is sitting). You will work closely with the press office, digital communications, and other parts of External Relations, alongside client-facing teams, to prepare external communications & influencing plans, identifying key external stakeholders and planning and project-managing communications about specific reports. More widely, you will help internal teams to identify their priority stakeholders and form long term engagement plans.

You will be responsible for making best use of marketing communications channels and resources to promote our reports, insights and work. A key part of this will be co-ordinating the involvement of our senior managers in events (principally invitations to speak at external events), ensuring we gain maximum impact from these activities. You will also provide input to the communications strategy which is being developed over the summer and autumn, in particular informing the stakeholder elements. This is a hands-on communications delivery role that requires attention to detail and tenacity to ensure deadlines are met and that communications activities are co-ordinated.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the below :-

* Strategic business perspective - You will play a key role in helping to deliver its strategy, so you must have a strong understanding of the business drivers, be able to develop insight and understanding of our external stakeholders and the issues they face, and use this to inform development of campaigns and plans to successfully influence the key audiences. You will need a strong sense of the role, value, and opportunities that communications and stakeholder engagement can play in helping to achieve its business objectives and strategy.
* Strong understanding of government - It is essential you understand how government works and are able to advise people on how to communicate their work and engage with external stakeholders to achieve the aims of increasing our influence to drive public service improvement.
* Proactive drive and resilience - In this role we need someone action-oriented. You must be self-motivated, fast and responsive, able to hit the ground running. Highly organised and not afraid to get stuck in, you will be confident in managing multiple demands and able to think on your feet in demanding situations. Crucially, you will be proactive, ambitious to deliver high performance.
* Excellent communication skills - You will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to produce clear, persuasive and accessible communication outputs capturing key messages, clear recommendations and proposals. You will be comfortable interpreting complex information and distilling it into key messages that can be easily understood by external audiences.
* Relationship management and collaboration - You will have experience of developing effective working relationships with experts and with colleagues from all grades, and be able to work effectively with them to devise and implement effective communications approaches. You will be able to establish credibility quickly with line colleagues and senior management, and become a trusted advisor to them.
* Stakeholder engagement expertise - You will be an experienced marketing communication professional, ideally having managed external stakeholder engagement in government, Parliament or other parts of the public sector.
* Insight and innovation - You will have the ability to use stakeholder feedback, trends and data on marketing effectiveness to develop insights and drive communication strategies for the future. You'll help drive innovation and improvement in the way things are done and service delivery and have a strong focus on evaluation and learning
