An category management and insights focused role for an entrepreneurial leading FMCG business who have major presence in the top multiples

Client Details

A leading FMCG business that offer high levels of autonomy, ownership, exposure and development opportunities.


The key responsibilities will include:

* Utilizing own analytical thinking and other recognized analytical tools and techniques to deliver insightful, robust and helpful analysis

* Meeting Category Insight, Sales and other business requirements for timely, accurate and comprehensive Category analysis and subsequent reporting

* Understanding then meeting and delivering against existing or emerging reporting (and business planning) cycles and deadlines

* Creating imaginative, influential and well-structured business presentations and infographics for internal and external audiences (including retail customers)

* Developing own capability (becoming the expert) in data agency and retailer driven data systems e.g. M&S (via IRI), Waitrose Connect, Kantar, i2c

* Supporting promotional calendars and creating a range review calendar (aligned to NPD briefs)

* Maintaining (to 100% accuracy) our continuous market research databases

* Resolving any areas of conflict and managing then concluding all data reconciliation between agencies

* Harnessing i2c knowledge to provide clear Category and shopper insight, becoming the "go to" person for shopper-related queries

* Managing (and challenging) expectations around data delivery and reporting (internal customers and external providers)

* Supporting the Head of Category Insight (delivering in-depth analysis, insights, recommendations and thought leadership):

* Range reviews, ad-hoc category reviews and NPD briefs

* Gaining NPD listings through compelling story telling

* Refreshing the current Category drivers - enabling the business to become more format (online, convenience) focused and led

* Understanding and implementing creative ways of bringing to life planograms, although currently no space planning software is available


To achieve success in the role, candidates should be able to demonstrate:

* Excellent numerical and verbal reasoning capability (to be assessed formally prior to interview)

* Significant experience of managing, comparing and understanding multiple data point then trouble-shooting obvious disconnects

* Good communication (including formal presentation), relationship-building and stakeholder management skills gained in a fast-paced commercial environment

* Proven influencing and "selling" skills - an aptitude for compelling report writing

* Successful project/activity management of multiple, often conflicting, requirements and deadlines

* Commercial insight, particularly when recommending new approaches or investment in new data sources

* Some understanding of retail, sales and how organisations work

* A solid track record of delivery

* Microsoft Office especially Excel and PowerPoint to advanced level


FMCG or previous food production/food retail exposure preferable

* Previous data agency experience e.g. Nielsen, IRI, Kantar or similar preferable
