Interim Communications & Engagement Officer - Basingstoke - £10-£20 per hour - Public Sector

Your new company
Local public sector client looking for an experienced communications and engagement officer to join a fast paced environment due to a busy time of year. As part of the communications and engagement team, responsible for the delivery of professional communications and engagement support and advice to all the teams. Use own initiative, discretion and judgement when undertaking and delivering both tasks associated with the role and delegated tasks.

Your new role

* Provide staff with relevant communications and engagement advice and support, ensuring that any relevant issues identified are escalated where possible.
* Assist in the production of marketing materials, in keeping with the client's brand.
* Ensure that the client fulfils its legal obligations relating to public and patient engagement, including (but not limited to) its duties under the Health and Social Care Act and any formal consultations.
* Protect and enhance the client's reputation and profile as the local leader

* Working with the Communications and Engagement administrator, ensure that communications and engagement tasks are carried out to a high standard, and liaising with the Head of Communications and Engagement in doing so, so that activities align to plans, as necessary.
* Maintain a wide range of communications and engagement channels to ensure effective, two-way communication between the key stakeholders
* Source and create material for staff, members and other internal audiences to increase engagement and understanding of the client's business and objectives.

* Plan and manage effective stakeholder meetings and events.
* Support the development and maintenance of effective working relationships between the client and local, national and specialist media, acting as a point of contact and ensuring the provision of timely and appropriate responses to enquiries.

* Responsible for sourcing and writing high quality news material for local, national and specialist media to help raise the profile and reputation of the client - through press releases, press calls, photo / filming opportunities and interviews.

* Responsible for sourcing and writing high quality and engaging website and social media content that targets a variety of internal and external audiences and through utilising various, appropriate communications channels.
* Monitor, evaluate and respond to coverage of the client and comments on its activities in the media (including social media)
* To support the Head of Communications and Engagement, and other colleagues, in crisis management communications and engagement activities.

* Ensure that information for patients and the public produced or distributed by the client is of a consistently high quality and responsive to the needs of the audience.
* Manage and develop the client's corporate identity, ensuring consistency with best practice and design guidelines.
* Take responsibility for own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities and participation in local and regional networks.
* Any other duties deemed appropriate to the post/grade

What you'll need to succeed

* Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification/experience in relevant professional discipline.
* Membership of a relevant professional body.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Demonstrable experience in dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders.
* Experience of producing high quality, accessible information for a wide range of audiences
* Experience of media management, including crisis management
* Ability to manage a complex portfolio of projects, without supervision, to tight deadlines
* High level of competence in relevant IT systems and software including MS Office
* Knowledge/experience of Wordpress as well as general knowledge of content management/web development
* Knowledge/experience of MailChimp & Survey Monkey
* Knowledge of, and demonstrable success in, running social media campaigns
