CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET?
If you can, you’re probably not the right person for us.
Many of our customers know us as the Trade’s Best Kept Secret – and it would be fair to say that until now, we’ve kept pretty quiet about our 95-year heritage, our 35,000-strong product range, our global manufacturing capabilities and the face that we have offices in 37 countries worldwide.
We haven’t really shouted about the fact that we supply products into some of the UK’s best-known DIY retail chains, builder’s merchants and home improvement stores, or that you would find our products in some of the country’s most famous landmarks and hotels. We also keep quiet about the fact that many of our products are featured on the best-known home improvement and renovation series on British television.
You are unlikely to have heard us talk about the fact that our field sales team is rated as one of the best in the industry, renowned for their knowledge and experience, and we don’t often mention that we have a team based at our head office Rugby, who are dedicated to helping our customers with ANY product or technical query they might have, all for free.
We haven’t made a big deal about our incredible length of service (currently at an average of 9.5 years, by the way), or the fact that our staff retention rate is 88%, and that our employees get amazing discounts across all of the brands we supply (like Smeg, Rangemaster, GROHE, Festool and Mirka). We also haven’t mentioned that we have free on-site parking, or that the motorway network and train station are just a stone’s throw from the office.
But here’s the thing – we don’t want to be the Trade’s Best Kept Secret anymore. We’d much rather be the Trade’s Worst Kept Secret. And that’s where you come in.
We need someone who is going to be able to help us decide what is most important for us to talk about to help us raise our profile, and then make sure everybody knows about it. So, if you are someone who enjoys cutting through the noise to make sure everyone knows about the brands you work with, then we want to hear from you.
You will be responsible for communicating our amazing products, and all of the services we offer which help to set us apart from the competition. You will be expected to support with the development of product and service marketing communication campaigns that aim to put us front of mind with our customers, and you will take responsibility for driving forward the execution of those plans. You will also ensure that you know exactly what is and isn’t working well for us, so we can adapt our communications accordingly. It’s all about making ourselves heard.
There will also be an element of corporate communications to thank about as well – our customers don’t just want to hear about our products – because we do lots of other exciting activity as well. Like raising in the region of £25k each year for our nominated charity, for instance.
Being someone who thrives on working in a fast-paced environment with plenty of simultaneous projects to have a handle on, you will already appreciate the importance of team work, and how communication is one of the lynch pins that keeps a team functioning well – so you’ll also be taking a leading role in developing our Internal Communications strategy, before executing it with enthusiasm and pride.
We have ambitious plans, and there are some big targets to achieve over the next 3 years, so you really will need to get a buzz from working in a fast-paced environment that likes to throw the occasional curve-ball your way (it’s part of what happens when you decide to change the way you talk about yourself, but we’re all in it together).
