Category Controller role with a well-known player in one of the most competitive food categories on shelf, marked by reasonable A&P spends, innovative promotions and a constant stream of innovation.  In this challenging role, working with colleagues across the business and major retailers, your task will be to develop and implement category initiatives that drive brand growth at the point of purchase, rooted in consumer, shopper and customer insight.  POS, packaging and promotions could all be part of your day-to-day work in what is a highly visible role and a great opportunity to show your talents.  Strong project management skills are of course essential; you’ll need to ensure all initiatives hit their timelines and run smoothly both internally and externally.  This is an exciting time to join the business as it embarks on a major drive towards category leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving the company’s category vision both internally & with Top 4 retailers
  • Engaging retailers and delivering Market Rejuvenation Strategy
  • Development of a clear point of purchase vision and plan by customer for the category
  • Delivery of range, display & distribution recommendations
  • Working with customers to create joint Category plans for brand and private label growth
  • Providing category insight to influence current and future strategic direction
  • Awareness & adoption of leading edge category developments
  • Providing compelling category arguments for NPD, supporting the Commercial & Sales agenda

Skills check list for this role:

  • For this challenging role, we're really looking for you to bring experience of managing sizeable budgets and brands. All this from within a fast paced FMCG environment. On top of that we're looking for:
  • Graduate calibre with several years experience in Category Management
  • A strong FMCG background ideally gained in food & drinks but not essential
  • Experience of working with Multiple Grocers essential
  • Knowledge of Online & Convenience channel desirable
  • Ability to engage & lead with customers at all levels
  • Stakeholder management – able to build relationship & influence with internal & external contacts
  • Strong analytical & problem solving skills with the ability to interpret consumer & market data to create valuable insights
  • Able to deliver a strong & compelling category story
