The Brand Controller for IRN-BRU is a key strategic role within AG Barr, and one of significant responsibility, exposure and scope. This is the core management role responsible for developing and implementing brand strategies and plans for IRN-BRU. Fundamentally consumer orientated, you’ll be developing and refining consumer propositions for the brand group and being the ‘representative’ of the consumer in business strategy development.
The role heads up a direct brand team, manages brand agencies and will also set the agenda and lead a number of major, cross functional business projects.
This role will give you the unique opportunity to both define and deliver, holding end to end responsibility for the Brand’s development and success. We expect you to take a fresh look at strategy and to define the go forward brand plan. As a result you will be able to deliver a tangible contribution in a business with a phenomenal ambition for growth.
As Brand Controller you will play the key role in developing brand strategy over the longer term time horizon, ensuring that IRN BRU, IRN BRU Xtra and also the Strathmore and the Barr Brands deliver against consumer needs and the organisation’s ambitious objectives; which include making IRN BRU the UK’s favourite flavoured carbonate.
Tasked with ownership, development and implementation of brand strategies and plans, you need to be fundamentally consumer orientated, always developing and refining consumer propositions for the brand group and being the ‘representative’ of the consumer in business strategy development. Although the role is consumer focused, clear understanding of trade issues and a sound understanding of financial data are also important.
Setting the strategic direction and vision, you will own the brand’s annual plans, head up an experienced direct brand team, manage brand agencies and will drive a number of major, cross functional business projects. You’ll therefore need to be highly commercial and have excellent financial acumen.
There is a significant planning component in the role, requiring the ability to evaluate information from a number of external sources – both data-driven and consumer behaviour – and to turn this into meaningful action plans.
You’ll need broad shoulders too – the role needs both logical and conceptual thinking styles. You should have an ability to evaluate information from a number of external sources – both data-driven and consumer behaviour – and to turn this into meaningful action plans.
Specific experience required:
- Strong academic background – degree educated or equivalent.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in a branded goods marketing role, which includes brand strategy and communications development.
- Time spent in leading FMCG or youth brands would be an advantage.
To build successful collaborations with your stakeholders across our organisation and with external agencies, your interpersonal skills and organisational ability will need to be well developed and a personal strength.
