Travel Advisor - Sustainable Travel in Southampton - 18 month contract - 3 days a week c£20k FTE - so pro rata

Your new company
Southampton City Council are committed to sustainable travel across the city and require a travel advisor.
The Travel Advisor is part of the Access Fund Programme team which is responsible for delivering the joint Southampton & Hampshire Access Fund bid 'Southampton: Driving our cycling ambition into local towns, schools, colleges and work places'. The Travel Advisor will integrate travel support and advice with the Pre-Employment Training package that forms part of the Solent Jobs Programme, to break down transport barriers for the long-term unemployed.

Your new role
Some of your duties will include:
1) Working alongside Employment Advisors, you will recommend affordable and sustainable travel alternatives to the private car for prospective employees in the Care Industry.
2) Develop a Travel Assistance Point at Eastleigh College to provide travel support and advice to adults and apprentices seeking local employment opportunities.
3) Promote a toolkit of resources, e-bikes, and bike loans to individuals engaged in the Solent Jobs Programme to enable them to cycle and walk to and from their places of future employment.
4) Work in close partnership with the Workplace Travel Plan Officers, Sustrans and other members of staff within the team to ensure a coordinated workplace engagement programme.
5) Support the Access Fund Programme Manager in spending an annual budget of approx. £40,000 per annum with responsibility for signing orders up to £10,000.
6) Participate and frequently lead on developing active partnerships with other employment agencies and stakeholders, and work across different Service Areas of the authority to help the city council achieve its air quality, sustainable travel and employment objectives.
7) Integrate with existing pre-employment training programmes and forge links with employment providers to gain access to long-term unemployed persons and add-value to support packages they are receiving.
8) Explore opportunities to bring in additional income or funding to support the programme.

What you'll need to succeed
Good working theoretical and practical knowledge across the area of sustainable travel planning and the strategic and policy framework within which the job is undertaken, with particular reference to issues of social inclusion and the environment.

What you'll get in return
This is an 18 month contract with Southampton City Council, working 3 days a week. Salary pro rata circa £20,000 FTE
