This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join the marketing team at Kew Gardens, one of London’s premier visitor attractions. Our aim is to unlock why plants matter – to share the importance of plants with our 1.8m visitors annually.
RBG Kew Enterprises is Kew Gardens’ commercial arm and manages all commercial events (such as Kew the Music, Kew the Movies, Christmas at Kew, Handmade at Kew and others) as well as licensing, publishing and retail, to help support the wider organisation. The majority of our commercial events are co-produced and co-promoted with external partners, requiring extensive collaboration and influencing to ensure RBG Kew Enterprises’ as well as our external partners’ goals are met.
The Commercial Events Marketing Manager will play a key role in delivering RBG Kew Enterprises’ marketing campaigns, communicating our diverse commercial events programme to a wide range of audiences. You will be an expert when it comes to understanding our customers through in-depth market research and will work closely with our external partners to tailor our marketing campaigns accordingly.
The Commercial Events Marketing Manager is responsible for achieving annual visitor numbers as part of the wider 5 year business plan self-generated income targets. The role will be working collaboratively with our commercial partners as well as the wider Kew Gardens Sales and Marketing team on planning, implementing and evaluating the external and onsite communications plan with the aim of (1) maximising the visitor numbers and admissions revenue for all commercial events and (2) ensuring that the onsite communication supports a positive and engaging visit as well as supporting secondary spend (catering and retail).
The role also works closely with the Head of Sales and Marketing as well as the Head of Visitor Programmes, Events and Exhibitions on more strategic planning including, but not limited to, 2 – 5 year visitor forecasting, pricing and market research requirements. The role also sits on appropriate cross-functional project teams to advise on marketing issues and assist in business planning.
The Commercial Events Marketing Manager is also expected to act as day to day brand champion and as a communications leader for RBG Kew Enterprises, working with a range of commercial partners and stakeholders to help improve their communications and ensure that Kew’s strategic brand platform and identity is used consistently and successfully across our commercial events and partner communications.
Educated to degree level with substantial post qualification experience in marketing communication, you will have an extensive experience of sales and marketing in a visitor attraction, tourism, leisure or arts sector context. Extensive business to consumer (B2C) marketing experience across a full range of channels is required. You will be an experienced line manager and will have managed budgets in excess of £30,000. Influencing and collaborating will be second nature to you, and you will have extensive experience working with external partners. Experience of managing media and creative agencies is essential, as is experience in working with market research agencies.
Salary will be £34,644 - £41,680 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Benefits include competitive annual leave allowance, excellent pension, a flexible benefits scheme, as well as a great working environment.
