The Union

Lancaster University Students’ Union (LUSU) is an exciting charity with an £8m+ turnover and one clear goal; to inspire and support our students to love their time at Lancaster. We have over 40 members of staff dedicated to this goal and support our work by delivering quality services to the 13,000+ students at Lancaster University. This includes managing the societies and sports clubs on campus, running large events such as the Graduation Ball attended by over 1,000 students per year, advice and support services and operating commercial services such as a student lettings agency and the Sugarhouse nightclub.

The Role

As part of our on-going development we are now in the position to recruit a Head of Marketing and Organisational Development to join our Senior Management Team and support the Chief Executive and Full Time Elected Officers in all aspects of the leadership and management of the Union. This role will lead a team of 7 full-time staff and approximately 50 student support staff, with £1.3 million budget to deliver; marketing, research, insight and impact, running the nightclub, events and developing new areas of business for the Union.

The Challenge

We want you to take a holistic view of the Union and promote it in a meaningful and impactful way to key stakeholders. You will lead innovative change with the goal of successfully changing services, structures, and more importantly creating sustainable change in our work, culture and effectiveness. This role will also seek to develop new externally funded projects for the Union, and provide business planning and development for the Union’s key commercial trading services, external sponsorship and core event delivery. To succeed in this role, you’ll have a strong marketing background, proven achievements in business development, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to articulate complex information in plain English. You will also need to have experience leading and developing successful teams.
