About Glyndebourne Productions Ltd
Glyndebourne began in 1934 as a two-week festival of two Mozart operas, staged by John Christie and his wife, Audrey Mildmay, in their home near Lewes. Their son, George, continued its development, launching the Tour in 1968 and developing the Festival into an internationally acclaimed three-month season in the world-class opera house opened in 1994. Now in our 80th year with George’s son, Gus as our chairman, Glyndebourne retains high production values and a strong sense of family that embraces audiences, performers and staff alike.
In addition to the Festival between May and August, we run a tour in the autumn which aims to bring the excellence of Glyndebourne to the widest possible audience. Also an education department which has a full and varied year-round programme to inform, inspire and develop the enjoyment and understanding of opera through a variety of activities.
In 2007 we started Glyndebourne on Screen and became the first UK opera house to screen its productions in cinemas. We also have a CD and DVD label and a retail and mail order business.
We employ 120 permanent staff in managerial, production and administration roles and over 400 seasonal staff including singers, musicians but also production, administration and support roles. We are fortunate that a large number of seasonal staff return each year.
We can offer free transport to and from Lewes, have excellent on site catering facilities, a beautiful working environment and the opportunity to see world class opera.
